Gateway to Greenland from West to North
Ilulissat is the largest town in North Greenland and is located just north of the icefjord, which has made the site famous. It has been admitted to the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2004. With the calm water of the Disko Bay, a stable climate and the giant icebergs of Kangia Fjord, the place is ideal for experiences at sea, but also for hikes with numerous scenic lookouts along the coast.
Kangerlussuaq lies between sea and ice at the end of a fjord and is home to the largest ice-free area in Greenland. The nearest inhabited places are Sisimiut, the second largest town in Greenland, and the village of Sarfannguit, which is less than a 130-kilometer (81-mile) beeline away. The wilderness area between the Davis Strait and the Ice Sheet has served as hunting ground for Inuit populations through millenia, and today huge parts of it is established as a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as Aasivissuit - Nipisat.
