Restaurant H8 Explorer

Delicious, light meals in historical location

People often express their surprise at finding this gem of a gourmet restaurant in a place the size of Oqaatsut, but that’s exactly what H8 Explorer restaurant is. Here you can enjoy light and fresh dishes prepared with respect to traditions, Greenlandic cuisine and the latest culinary trends.

Find appetizing options, from snacks to lunch in this small, historical restaurant which was originally founded in 1894 as a warehouse for Royal Greenland Trade (KGH).

The restaurant is surrounded by spectacular views out to a protected bay. Here, you will experience Greenland from a quieter and more leisurely corner than you do in the cities where roads, people, tours and modern life have taken on daily life. And as with all Greenland settlements located by the sea, you position yourself even closer to the unique scenery.

Most icebergs from Ilulissat’s icefjord drift north with the current along the coast and further out into Disko Bay, meaning that the voyage out there and back will in itself be an otherworldly experience.

Next to the restaurant is a little Kayak center and evening accomodations for longer stays.

Our staff provides menus mainly composed of fresh Greenlandic ingredients. The restaurant is open during the season for both lunch and dinner from the 1st of June to the 30th of September.
