Meet the sled dogs

The famous Greenlandic dog

Visit the famous Greenlandic sled dogs and learn why Inuit have used them for thousands of years. Our local musher will show us how the dogs pull the sled and why they love it.

The sled dogs have been an important part of the Inuit culture for more than 4000 years. They were used for hunting, fishing and transportation of goods between settlements in the winter. This is still the case today, even though many Greenlanders now use snowmobiles instead. However, the sled dogs still plays an important role in the Greenlandic society.

We will visit one of the local mushers, who will explain us about his dogs and how he feeds and breeds them. The mushers use a very special technique to adjust the pace and the direction of the dogs, which is why the dogs have to be educated from an early age. The dog sled musher, or driver, will also show us the dog sled and demonstrate the harness and whip.

Experience the Sled Dogs

The Greenlandic sled dog is not a pet, but a strong and faithful working animal, which can be aggressive. As a result, you always have to keep your distance, but our driver will point out which of his dogs you can pet.

Join this tour if you want to experience the Greenlandic sled dog up close and learn how man's best friend helped the Inuits survive in Greenland for thousands of years.

Please note, it can be dirty and smelly at the dog kennel. Also, this is not an actual dog sled tour, but a demonstration of the sled dog, sled and remedies. Remember practical clothing.
