Summer in the Diskobay area means plenty of playful whales!
On this excursion, we set out aboard our 12-passenger boats to explore the open sea and search for whales in their natural habitats—and the Disko Bay rarely disappoints! The chances of spotting whales are incredibly high. Using our local knowledge, the boats stay in constant communication throughout the day to track the whales' movements. Sometimes we head south of the town, other times north—but we always move between different spots, often spotting whales in more than one location during the tour.
The focus of the excursion is to spend quality time with the whales when we encounter them. When we do, we turn off the boat engines and quietly observe their behavior and movements. This allows the whales to move freely in the water and approach us if they choose, while ensuring that our presence doesn’t disturb them. This way, we can experience these magnificent creatures up close, without causing any stress to them.
Humpback whales are the most likely species we’ll encounter, and they’re particularly fascinating to observe. Known for their playful nature, they often raise their tails when diving and are especially active when we spot calves with them. Watching these majestic animals glide through the water and hearing the sounds of their spouts is an unforgettable experience that will stay with you long after the tour.
