Kayaking in Ilulissat is, without a doubt, one of the very best ways to experience this incredible natural wonder. Being at sea level, moving quietly through the water under your own power, offers a truly unique way to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Whether you join our excursion during the day or in the evening, you’ll see the icebergs from an entirely new and unforgettable perspective.
At the beginning of the excursion, we’ll get ready together and dress in all the necessary gear – a warm wool underlayer, drysuit, life vest, and neoprene boots and gloves. Our experienced instructors will go through safety procedures and explain how all the equipment works.
Once everyone is suited up and briefed, we’ll head out in our stable tandem kayaks. Our instructor will assist you as we enter the water safely and demonstrate paddling techniques and useful tips for an enjoyable experience.
Our route takes us past the bay in front of Zion’s Church, where we’ll have a wonderful view of the city. Here, your instructor and guide will share stories about Greenland’s rich kayaking traditions and how they have been an essential part of life in the Arctic for centuries. From there, we’ll paddle along the shoreline toward the Icefjord, stopping at the edge of the mountains near the fjord. From this point, we can admire the enormous icebergs from a safe distance while enjoying a warm drink before heading back to our starting point.
