Eqi, or also known as Eqip Sermia in Greenlandic, is located approximately 70 kilometers north of Ilulissat. Our journey begins with a scenic two-hour boat ride through Ataa Sound, sailing along Greenland's breathtaking coastline. As we navigate past drifting icebergs, there is a good chance of spotting wildlife such as whales or seals along the way.
Roughly 15 kilometers from the glacier, its immense ice wall will begin to appear on the horizon - rising 200 meteres high and stretching three kilometers wide. We will gradually approach the glacier, aiming to get within just a few kilometers of the calving front, depending on the ice conditions.
Once positioned in front of the glacier, we'll enjoy a relaxing lunch on board while keeping our eyes and ears open for calvings. You'll hear the thunderous cracks and roars as massive chunks of ice break off and crash into the sea - an unforgettable natural spectacle. We typically spend around 1,5 hours near the glacier, allowing time to absorb the scenery, admire the textures and striking colors of the ice, and fully appreciate this extraordinary natural wonder.
