We begin our journey by setting sail from Ilulissat towards the charming town of Qeqertarsuaq. Onboard, you can enjoy a light breakfast and a cup of coffee while taking in the breathtaking views of the mesmerizing sea and towering icebergs. Upon arriving in Qeqertarsuaq, you'll have the opportunity to explore the town and get a glimpse into daily life.
Like many towns in Greenland, Qeqertarsuaq is surrounded by stunning natural beauty. What makes this area particularly special is the distinct landscape of Qeqertarsuaq Island, with everything from sandy beaches and soaring mountains to waterfalls and the striking basalt formations at Kuannit. These are the very sights we’ll experience on our hike to Kuannit.
In Greenlandic, Kuannit means "angelica," named after the plant that grows abundantly in the area. The landscape here is lush and vibrant, with incredible basalt formations on one side, and the rugged, blue ocean with drifting icebergs on the other. If we’re lucky, we might even spot whales during our hike. Kuannit is truly a one-of-a-kind destination that must be seen to be believed!
We’ll pause for lunch at Kuannit, enjoying our meal while taking in the panoramic views of the sea and rock formations. The hike is approximately 6.5 kilometers in total. Afterward, we’ll sail back to Ilulissat, where you can unwind with a warm cup of coffee and a slice of cake as you reflect on this unforgettable day.
