A small restaurant in historical buildings in Oqaatsut.

At the heart of our excursions to Oqaatsut is Restaurant H8 – a truly special place where you can taste the best of what Greenlandic nature has to offer. Here, we prepare fresh fish and meat sourced from the surrounding wilderness and some of the finest regions across Greenland.

The restaurant is intimate and cozy, seating just 20–25 guests at a time. With breathtaking views of the bay just outside the windows, you’ll immediately feel the peace and quiet that defines life in this small settlement.

Restaurant H8 is steeped in history. The buildings were originally constructed in the late 1890s by the Royal Greenlandic Trade Department, which played a crucial role in the survival and development of towns and settlements across Greenland. Today, the buildings are protected and have served as a restaurant for the past 25 years.

The name “H8” dates back to World War II, when the Americans marked rooftops of buildings in settlements along the Greenlandic coast with codes to aid aerial navigation. In Oqaatsut, the building now housing the restaurant was marked with "H8" – and the name has remained ever since.

Don't miss the chance to experience one of Greenland’s most unique dining spots, where local ingredients, authentic flavors, and a warm, down-to-earth atmosphere are always at the heart of what we do.

Winter season (end of February to Mid-April). Restaurant H8 is open for lunch from Wednesday to Sunday, in connection with our Albatros Arctic Circle excursions. These combine transport from Ilulissat to Oqaatsut with a winter activity in the settlement — such as ice fishing, dog sledding, or snowshoe hiking — followed by a delicious lunch at the restaurant.

Summer season (1st of June - 15th of September). The restaurant is open daily for both lunch and dinner. We recommend joining one of our various excursions to Oqaatsut, each including a memorable meal at Restaurant H8.
