Ilulissat: Night Sky Photography

- chasing the northern lights

The Greenlandic winter nights are always something special. Sometimes dotted-with-stars black, sometimes full-moon white and sometimes Northern Lights green. No matter the color, we will show you how to best capture the incredible beauty and colours of the  Arctic sky, using your camera.

The photo tour starts at Hotel Hvide Falk, where our professional photographer will explain you how to use your camera to capture stars and Northern Lights over a cup of coffee, tea and biscuits. The photographer will help set up your camera and teach you about basics like exposure and shutter time.

We then continue outside with snowshoes and ski poles. Our experienced snowshoeing guide will show you how to use the equipment and guide the route. We will pass some of the best spots around Ilulissat and put in use the techniques we just learned. On the way, we will pass the Ilulissat Icefjord, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there, you can fully experience and capture the incredible winter nights.

* We can’t guarantee the occurrence of Northern Lights on any given evening.

** The usage of snowshoes and ski poles is weather dependant. Sometimes the firmness of the snow makes the snowshoes an inconvenience, in which case we won't wear them.
