Hiking along the Icefjord

On this extended hike, we follow the Blue Trail through the beautiful landscape behind Ilulissat and along the incredible icefjord. We will pass stunning lakes, mountains and the historical Sermermiut.

The Blue Trail is one of the most scenic trails in Ilulissat. Most of the trail follows the shore of the icefjord, which is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here we have an incredible view to the impressive icebergs and pass a lot of other great viewpoints.

We start at the old stone quarry and walk into the long canyon, before we enter the beautiful mountainous area behind Ilulissat. Here we will pass a great lake and continue to the open landscape next to the icefjord. We will also pass the historical Sermermiut, where Inuits have lived for more than 4000 years. The hike will end at the old heliport, where we will be picked up by car.

Historic Site of Sermermiut

During the tour, your experienced guide will explain you how the ice impacts the area and about the rest of the stunning nature, about Sermermiut and the history and culture of this incredible place. Your guide will adjust the pace of the hike and number of rests to your group, just like the guide will tailor the stories to your interests. There will be plenty of time to ask and answer whatever questions you might have about Greenland.

This is the perfect hike if you want to experience the nature surrounding Ilulissat with it’s gorgeous icefjord, high mountains, beautiful lakes and at the same time learn about the history and culture of the area.
