Kangerlussuaq is renowned for its diverse wildlife, including musk ox, reindeer, Arctic foxes, and countless bird species. With the fjord on one side, and the massive Ice Sheet on the other, Kangerlussuaq is surprisingly one of the most ice-free tracks of land in all of Greenland. Its locations is a paradise for btoh reindeer and musk oxen, who trive in this environment due to relatively mild, stable, and dry climate and the abundance of food. In fact, the population of reindeer between Kangerlussuaq and Sisimiut is an original population that has been there for thousands of years, and this area holds the largest population of reindeers in Greenland.
Ilulissat is located by the stunning Disko Bay and The UNESCO-listed Icefjord, which makes this area famous for its marine wildlife. You are able to spot humpback whales, fin whales, and sometimes, if we are lucky, bowhead whales during summer, and birdwatchers will be delighted to experience the many seabirds along the cliffs. And of course, the Disko Bay provides excellent conditions for fishing all throughout the year.
Whether you're a wildlife enthusiast or simply seeking memorable adventure in Greenland's pristine nature, Ilulissat and Kangerlussuaq offer experiences that bring you up close to the Greenlandic wilderness.
